Shao Dazhen, born in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province in 1934, is a renowned art theorist, professor and doctoral supervisor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He also worked as Honorary Director of the Theoretical Committee, China Artists Association, Consultant to the Literary Theorists Association of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and Honorary Member of the 10th China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. In 1955, he went to the Soviet Union to study in the Department of Art History at Repin Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In July 1960, he graduated and returned to China to teach at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He has been engaged in the research of Western art history and Chinese modern art for a long time. He has made outstanding achievements in the development of Western modern art and Chinese contemporary art creation. Throughout his life, he has cultivated modern Chinese art in research and promoted the development of Chinese art forms from traditional ways to modern expression.

He had served as Secretary of the Secretariat for the China Artists Association and Editor-in-Chief of Art (Meishu) magazine. He was the jury member for the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th National Exhibition of Fine Arts organized by the China Artists Association, a jury member for the Beijing International Biennale, Editor for the Art Subject of the Encyclopedia of China, Director of the Academic Committee of the Li Keran Art Foundation, Distinguished Professor at the Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University and the School of Arts and Communication, Beijing Normal University, Distinguished Professor and Director of the Academic Committee of the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, Honorary Professor of the Repin Academy of Fine Arts in Russia, and so on.
